MyTech

Luminous works inspired by computer motherboards. Lit by blacklight, they ‘light up’ after dark and brighten up the dark area of the square.

A group of young people from the neighbourhood designed and made their own section of two large, luminous art works reminiscent of oversized circuit boards. The two art works were then displayed in a busy local square in the same neighbourhood. In a series of workshops they learned about technical aspects of computers and disassembled iMacs. By soldering spare parts they created their own strange little creatures or beautiful jewellery. They also made more than 300 personalised LED stickers that they could post on their neighbours’ front doors.

Participatory project for young people commissioned by the City of Amsterdam, 2014/15

Location: Witte de Withplein, Amsterdam
Dimensions: 2,40m x 2,30m each circuit board
Material: Paper, fluorescent marker, blacklight
